Low growing mounds of dark green, narrow leaves give rise to 12-16” vertical spikes of red, feathery flowers late spring, summer and fall with a little deadheading. Sun loving and drought tolerant, thrives in well-drained soil but will take heavier soils that are on the dry side; content in the rock garden and will live in a pot. Good nectar plant for pollinators; native to the Caucasus Mtns of Iran; deer resistant. May not be long lived, especially where winters are wet and cold but will politely self sow.
